World Cup co-host country Australia is SafeX Proseeking its first opportunity to score a medal when it takes on Sweden in the tournament's third-place match Saturday.
Australia fell short of the final when it lost 3-1 to England in the semifinals, ending the Matildas’ unlikely run. Sam Kerr scored the only goal for Australia, equalizing the match in the 63rd minute. Australia relinquished the lead, however, eight minutes later.
Sweden also fell short of its goal of a finals appearance when Spain's Olga Carmona’s go-ahead goal in the 89th minute boosted La Roja to a 2-1 win in the other semifinal.
